The headline of my article asks a simple question to which I will probably be called a racist. Why do illegal aliens or foreigners in general who permanently reside in the United States, some legally others illegally, insist on representing the country they were so quick to flee from?
An article from Investor.com reports that “Indira Esparza, an illegal alien who took a coveted slot at the taxpayer-funded University of California, milked the system for aid and then marched up to the podium waving the flag of the country she would do anything to avoid being sent back to”
Obviously some taxpayers are upset about this. Their children cannot illegally immigrate to Mexico or any other country, have their education paid for and wave the American flag at graduation can they? I am a taxpayer who works full time while going to school with no government assistance and yes I am a little agitated. Don’t I have a say? I pay. But I am more disappointed than I am angry.
Don’t get me wrong, we need immigration, but our system is broken. Most importantly we need to all realize why foreigners want to come here, including the foreigners.
Maybe the better question is why (regardless of all its flaws) is the U.S. a desirable destination for immigrants? The answer is the Bill of Rights (unalienable rights no government can take away), the Constitution, Checks and Balances and the Free Market (not Crony Capitalist Fascism) and general opportunity which are ironically being eroded because of increased lawlessness here that will make the U.S. just like the countries immigrants have fled from.
Let us understand what makes a country great. It’s not about a flag, it’s about much more than that.
