We all know McDonald’s is not the healthiest option for dinner, but did we know that their french fries, also known as fried potatoes, consist of a whopping 19 ingredients? I didn’t, but I’m not surprised. Who knew to make french fries you need more than salt and a bit of oil? In the world of mega-corporations, profits are all that matters. This is not an issue with me, because I am all about operating in the free-market to make as much money as possible producing a quality product, but McDonald’s does not produce a quality product and that is why their business is suffering. Maybe they could scale back on the amount of locations they have, and concentrate on offering healthy products at a reasonable market price. I’ll be honest, I haven’t eaten at McDonald’s for three years, because the last time I at a cheeseburger there, I literally puked. One of the ingredients listed as being a part of the creation of a ‘Mickey D’s Fry’ is Polydimethylsiloxane. This ingredient is also used in ‘Silly Putty’ as well as cosmetic products such as shampoo.
The video below explains exactly what is in a McDonald’s french fry and simple steps explaining the adding of the ingredients. Grant Imahara, former host of ‘Mythbusters’ assures you that all the ingredients are perfectly safe and are critical to maintaining that McDonald’s fry taste you love. You be the judge.

Another video takes you to the origin of McDonald’s potatoes, attempting to prove to their shrinking customer base that they are completely transparent in their practices.

Remember the 2004 documentary ‘Super Size Me’ ? I do. McDonald’s is not an option if you want to live a long and healthy life.

Regardless of the obvious dangers the McDonald’s menu poses to the public, I believe in the free market, so our main goal should be to continue to support quality food producers and using our purchasing power to force McDonald’s to offer better products. Their profits have fallen and this is a result of the public demanding a better product. As corporations grows to global multi-national forces, quality always suffers and this is why we have to be smart consumers and support local businesses that offer quality products over cheap, destructive products, even if you pay more in the beginning.
