The newly released video game ‘Hatred’ has been referred to as the ‘sickest ever’. Not to be confused with physical illness, the phrase ‘sickest ever’ are words conveyed in a positive light in 2015. The Daily Mail reports ‘Hatred’ is the story of a lone wolf gunman who ‘hates the world’ and acts out his fantasy of brutally murdering the public and police because ‘no life is worth saving’. The game received an AO (Adults Only) rating, equivalent to an NC-17 film.
I don’t know about you, but when I watched the trailer of this truly disturbing game, I couldn’t help but think about how far we’ve fallen off the cliff as a society. Do we really think only adults will be playing this game? Even if that were actually the case, shouldn’t we be questioning the morale of anyone who partakes in this kind activity? These kinds of games should not be taken lightly. Just because violence is portrayed in movies and video games, does not make it acceptable. We act like the simulation of murder on a mass scale is no problem because it is on a computer screen. My grandfather, an extremely honorable man, served in the U.S. Military during World War II against the barbarous Nazi regime, and many people were killed to ensure the freedoms we enjoy today. Do we really think production of these kinds of games contribute to the betterment of our society? They surely are contributing to our destruction.
