I have several subsonic weapons. These are the easiest to make quiet.
I have an old Mauser 98 action that I chambered in 45 ACP. It sounds like a 22LR. With a little electrical tape and a plastic pop bottle taped over the end makes it sound like a pellet gun.
But, a lot of us don’t have the opportunity to build or own multiple firearms. If you own a 308, ( 7.62 NATO) , you can buy an adapter to shoot 32 ACP. Now this is better done with a bolt action, as a semi auto will extract and toss your adapter. I have one and it is quieter than the rifle I built. the 32 ACP will give you an edge.
The edge…..You can take large game at close range without drawing attention. In a survival situation, I prefer this over a bow or crossbow. With the use of these, game has a tendency to run and die of hemorrhage. You open yourself to discovery chasing your game. The quick decisive blow, a bullet, even in a hand gun caliber will do the job when your shot is well placed.
One shot, placed decisively, will drop game in their tracks. Shooting your game in the eye or head hitting the brain and immobilizing your target. It can be done with a 22LR.
If you Google the De lisle carbine, you will find out what can be done. I do not condone anyone to build this or violate law…. I am just saying it can be done. Maybe a thought. Put together the equipment that you need…..A 308 rifle, a 32 ACP adapter, and a pop bottle along with electrical tape to “fit”. That way you will have all components post collapse.
I encourage you to play with the firearm you have. Stay within legal limits, but find out how to be QUIET !! One day, post collapse, while you are hunting it may save your life from others, that are not as prepared or successful hunting as you are !!
