“Technology is a double-edged sword, it can both liberate and enslave”

By Mario Ramirez | WeaponizedNews.Com | June 25, 2015

Are we enslaved to our smart phones? Growing up my mother could strike a conversation up with anyone. I would always joke about how she would become best friends with people by the end of her conversations. By the end of it some stranger would know everything about me, my family, our goals and aspirations. It seemed normal, everyone seemed to be engaged, talking, listening, and laughing whether it was the DMV or the grocery store. Now that I am at the age of adulthood I have a thirst for human interaction as well. I want meaningful conversations with strangers about life and things that matter. When I walk passed people almost every person has their head down on their phones. Everything seems so fast paced like we always have somewhere to be. No one talks at all even when you try to strike up a conversation. What is going on lately with people?

Since the invention of the assembly line the United States has become the leader in mass production. With the standard of living increasing during and after WWII, consumerism was being pushed more and more. We started as one of the leaders in innovation, all around the world people wanted to share their ideas and inventions. We had US patents and minimal government intervention which was very appealing to the suppressed populace of other countries. From the Telegram to the telephone, from the radio to the television, from the transistor to the Apple computer in the last 100 years these inventions raised our standard of living far beyond imaginable.

Now our fast paced economy heavily relies on consumers to constantly buy every day, even if our health is at risk from these products. Cell phones are a primary example, as of 2010, there were more than 303 million subscribers to cell phone service in the United States, according to the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association. This is a nearly threefold increase from the 110 million users in 2000 (WSP). With nearly every American with a cell phone has anyone look into the risk of having a microwave near your brain? Dr. Russell Blaylock, neurosurgeon and editor of The Blaylock Wellness Report, may have the answer. Blaylock shares, “There is considerable evidence that cellphones damage the brain as well as other tissues and organs. In fact, two of the scientists cellphone companies backed to do these studies were fired when their studies demonstrated DNA damage in all cells exposed to the wavelengths and energy from cellphones.” [1]

Beyond health risks, which research is provided by conflict of interests to persuade this is false, what has this done to our intelligence?

A new study from researchers in Europe claims that the average IQ in Western nations dropped by a staggering 14.1 points over the past century. This study was done based off of people’s reactions times to external stimulus as well. We are continuing to loose not only our intelligence but our reaction time. Not to mention a poll shows that almost half of America don’t read books! According to a HuffPost/YouGov poll asking 1,000 U.S. adults about their reading habits, 41 percent of respondents had not read a fiction book in the past year; 42 percent had not read a nonfiction book.

Today’s teens spend more than 71 / 2 hours a day consuming media watching TV, listening to music, surfing the Web, social networking, and playing video games, according to a 2010 study of 8- to 18-year-olds conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation. Unfortunately the consquences of instant gradification are reeking havic on our society. Unkowning parents grant smart phones to children, who haven’t even fully developed their frontal lobe, just to satisfy todays “NOW” society.

With all these technological advances is there ever going to be a time where we are all out of ideas? Is there ever going to be a time where the earth cannot supply the resources for our lavished lifestyles? I think we grow closer to that time everyday.
