Louis Marinelli, CEO of the Political Action Committee Sovereign California, an organization that advocates for the state of California to be an autonomous region having a sub national sovereign relationship with the United States government, has announced his candidacy for State Assembly in the 80th District running under the California National Party platform, the first ever fielded.
“I am not a Democrat, nor am I a Republican. I am a Californian first and foremost and I am a candidate of the California National Party because of its dedication to putting ideologies aside. I am proud to stand together with other California nationalists from the left and right who can focus on what unites us instead of bickering about the tiny issues that divide us. This is how we’re going to make California a nation, how we’re going to take California back from the federal government,” Marinelli said in a press release on his website.
Although you may not agree with everything Sovereign California or the California National Party advocates, the movement for an independent California is not going away any time soon. California pays the most Federal income tax of any state in the Union and only gets back around three fourths, on average, of that in services every year. The rest of the tens of billions of tax dollars from California are redistributed to other state’s infrastructure leaving California on the short end of the stick footing the bill for states like North Dakota.
A more independent California is a big move for the decentralization of government and power. We need more movements like these and more California legislators to see this as a solution to the constant overreach of the Federal government.
